Devilsoul stirred finally, eyes fluttering open. He stared confusedly up at Rippedwhisker before staggering to his paws, almost falling. He was tired, but he knew the rats were still a problem.
Shallowpool looked at Devilsoul, then Zacky, then back again. When he was saw Devilsoul rise, he took a hesitant step towards Zacky, but with the small amount of lighting he could now see clearly the rats covering the ground, swarming towards him. Their beady eyes seemed to glow, and he felt his breath catch in his throat. Shallowpool froze in place, not able to will himself to move.
Devilsoul ran and headbutted Shallowpool in his rump, causing him to go stumbling forward. "We have to move!" he hissed. And then they both went to help Zacky.

Rippedwhisker joined the two, seeing Devilsoul back on his paws again. She went and pressed all her body weight against the wood, and under the weight of all four cats together, the plank snapped, and and Rippedwhisker knocked into Shallowpool when they were back out, except in the shallow waters they could stand in, landing on top of him. The light was blinding to her, but what was horrid was the sting of the salt water in her wounds. She opened her eyes to see she was on Shallowpool, and almost embarrassed, she rolled off of him, shaking the water from her fur, every wound burning as the salt water dripped into each wound. Zacky had never felt an open wound in salt water, so the pain was really bad for him as well. [/center][/blockquote]

Devilsoul bit his tongue to stop from crying out, and leapt out to the shore. He shook off the water and then looked around to make sure they were all there.
Shallowpool resisted the urge to giggle. Besides, the urge went away almost instantly as he began to feel the salt water on his wounds. Groaning quietly, he sprinted to the water's edge and collapsed there, panting. He had faced his fears...or had he? I'm a coward, he thought.

Zacky followed Shallowpool's lead, letting his knees buckle once he was out of any way of getting wet. Rippedwhisker was the last out, but she also sat down instantly, breathing heavily. She licked at her wounds and ruffled fur, trying to clean up the extra blood that would crust around her wounds. "I think everyone fought great," she was the first to speak, wanting there to be some sort of positive note here, although it seemed like her attempt was in vain. [/blockquote][/center]

Shallowpool looked up at Rippedwhisker. "Not me," he mumbled, quiet, as if to himself. He looked away then, not bothering to stand up, instead staying down on the ground.
Devilsoul got to his paws groggily, turning his gaze around him. He caught what Shallowpool said and glared down at him. "Everyone fought great," he confirmed loudly, still staring stonily at Shallowpool. He then stretched his paws before plopping down on his hindquarters.

Rippedwhisker looked long and hard at Shallowpool, but softly, not harsh like a glare. "Well, if it means anything, I think everyone did great," she twitched the end of her tail as she spoke, sighing afterward. "So much for hunting," Zacky mumbled, saying out loud what Rippedwhisker was thinking. [/center][/blockquote]

Devilsoul shrugged. "There's nothing we can do about that now. I think we should just get back to camp," he announced. He turned and started to pad away in the direction of the camp, looking back over his shoulder. Finally he paused, waiting for the others.
Shallowpool made no move to join him.

Zacky followed Devilsoul, happy to be able to get some rest afer today's events. Rippedwhisker began to follow, but she glanced back at Shallowpool, who hadn't moved. She looked ahead to Devilsoul and Zacky and said, "Go on ahead, we'll catch up." She turned around and padded beside her friend. She gave him a soft lick over his ear. "Shallowpool, what's wrong?" She asked, her voice soft. [/blockquote]

Shallowpool finally raised his head, gazing up at Rippedwhisker. He was silent for a long, long while, only staring sadly up at her. For a moment, he met his gaze with hers. The moment passed. "I was a coward!" he exclaimed suddenly. He then stared down at his paws solemnly.

Unable to control herself at that moment, she cuffed Shallowpool over the ear with a sheathed paw, careful to avoid any wounds though. Rippedwhisker looked back down at her paws after, suddenly finding them very interesting. "I thought you were very brave," she mumbled, loud enough for him to hear, but not as loud as he exclaimed his thoughts of him being a coward. [/blockquote][/size]

Shallowpool slid his gaze from his paws up to meet Rippedwhisker's gaze, though he realized she, too, had been staring at her paws. So he just looked her in the face and meowed bitterly, "I ran! I didn't fight enough. I put myself before my Clanmates."

Now it was Rippedwhisker's turn to get a little bitter; a rare occurance for the normally good-spirited femme. Her yellow audits blazed and she got to her paws. "Didn't fight enough? How do you think you got all these wounds on your body," she growled. "And at least you went in! I waited outside until I heard Zacky say Devilsoul was losing a life, so if anyone put themselves before the Clan, it was me," real anger, at herself for putting herself above her Clanmates, and at Shallowpool for thinking lowly of himself. After a moment of holding his gaze, that blaze left her eyes, and she sat beside him, a little down. "Sorry," she murmured, never really meaning to have gotten so heated up about it. She hesitated, but then rested her muzzle against his leg, closing her eyes as she tried to relax for a moment. [/blockquote][/size]

Shallowpool sighed in reply. He rolled his eyes and looked at Rippedwhisker, who was now laying her muzzle on his paw. He blinked and then sighed yet again. There would be no winning this quarrel, would there? He looked away, then spoke softly, "You were very brave."

Rippedwhisker growled lowly, but pathetically. She disagreed, that was apparent, but she was too tired to continue arguing over who was braver, and she wasn't sure how to explain why she feels so strongly about the way she does without Shallowpool thinking she's gone crazy. So she simply let her pitiful growl let him know she disagreed, but isn't going to argue all over again over the same subject, because neither cat would win the argument. Rippedwhisker, though she was very nervous, she dared to move a little closer so their pelts brushed, and she rested her head lightly against an area on Shallowpool's shoulder that was unwounded, sighing from exhaustion of the day's activities. Shallowpool jerked his head to stare in shock at her; though it was hard to twist his head enough to get a good look. He blinked and coc ked his head to the side before only shrugging (with one shoulder, considering Rippedwhisker was on the other) and turning his head back to face directly in front of him. He rolled his eyes up to the sky, staring idly and forlornly. It was darkening fast.
