His muscles bunched up as he leapt atop the limbs of the fallen trees. The leaves on the bark caused his paws to slip, but he kept his balance and hauled himself onto the platform, for lack of a better word. It wasn't even, but the view was beyond amazing. The sky was dyed orange, the clouds streaked red. The big, yellow shape in the distance was slowly disappearing. Shadows lengthened, and it was getting darker.
And those emerald green orbs saw it all.
A sigh escaped his lips, and Crimsonstar sat down. The territory, the Clan. He finally reached his goal--his rank was no longer a warrior, or deputy, but instead a leader. A deep breath, and his lungs were filled with the air around him. It was so quiet, so calming. He wouldn't admit it to anyone else--he isn't able to swallow his pride so easily--but the sudden change was a little overwhelming. But this seemed to put his restless, excited mind at some ease; just being away from everything, taking a small break before returning to camp. [/blockquote]

A large, dark form stalked across the ground, massive black paws placed one in front of the other fluidly. Limber muscles rippled smoothly, increasing tempo as their attached limbs did. Night had fallen, and he was now in his element.
He was totally unseen as he went, and he felt confident that nothing in the forest could challenge him. His bright yellow optics blazed in the shadowy scene, white fangs glinting as he pulled back his lips and snarled silently. He looked every bit like a black panther as he lurched forward, long black tail swaying behind him in it's perfect u shape. The one thing that made him stand out in the darkness, resting atop his forehead like an ashen brand, was a white crescent, turned silvery by the light of the rising moon.
He was frustrated; anger boiled up inside of him. Deathpaw had been like a mentor to him for many moons, but he had been keeping something secret. The young tom could sense it. He was not a stupid kit anymore, and not so oblivious. Although he had not been named according to clan custom, he was about apprentice age himself. The black beast could sense a treachery lurking behind the green eyes of the pale tom.
And still, he had more to worry about. His aunt was evermore pressuring him to leave Blazeclan and join her on her goody-goody crusade to help all clans in need. He growled low in his throat. But she had told him that it was his choice, and he would have to make it in the end. Stay in Blazeclan, or help her serve justice. He didn't know where his loyalties lay anymore. He certainly didn't want to be a part of his aunt's sceme, for he could find better things to do with his time and quite frankly, was not loyal to every clan in the forest.
He was the most loyal to himself, to tell the truth.
Midnight had rogue parents, but had been born into Blazeclan and intrusted to Deathpaw to be watched as he grew. Maybe he had inherited the selfishness of his sire and queen, but he really had no clue as to why he had little interest in anything but himself lately. He wanted to repay the clan that had been raising him since his birth, but he wasn't sure if he could. He felt slight loyalty, but felt isolated somehow; like he didn't belong.
Midnight sighed. He wanted more than anything to find his place in the world, but didn't know where to start looking. He was lost.
With the ease of a jungle cat, Midnight scaled the tree and flowed up to perch on a sturdy limb. His yellow-green orbs looked around and then flicked upwards to gaze at the twilight sky above. It sure was gorgeous tonight. His keen eyesight spotted another cat, but he couldn't tell who it was. Slipping backwards along the limb, he faded into the shadows beside the trunk and narrowed his eyes, hardly visible at all now. He watched the other cat, who had no idea that he was there. His approach had been masterful, and silent. Midnight wondered what the other would do, and so observed with a quiet interest. [/blockquote]

The leader's ears perked as he heard something rustle. Maybe it was the wind, maybe it was a squirrel he didn't smell earlier when he was hunting. No, he parted his jaws, and managed to catch the scent of a feline. Whether or not he knew this cat, he wasn't sure, so he stood, and crept over towards the spot where he climbed up and peered over. There was nothing in sight.
'Who's there?' He dared to ask. There had been no reports of anything out of the ordinary from the patrols, so he would make an assumption that it was probably one of the apprentices or someone wanting to simply mess around and possibly have a laugh. It was a risky thing to assume, but Crimsonstar went with the benefit of the doubt. [/blockquote]

Midnight recognized the voice, and his bristling hackles laid flat again. It was Crimsonstar. He scented uncertainty on the air; the mate of fear. He cracked a wry smile. Crimsonstar was intimidated by little old him, perhaps? The wonders of the shadows always amazed him. The leader was peering into the darkness very near where he was perched. Stepping out of his concealment, the crescent upon his brow glinted furiously under the moonlight.
Looking up with his bright yellow eyes, he greeted the leader with a soft, disarming mew. With his talons now freed from their sheaths, he clawed his way up the tree with the certainty of something much practised. He stood beside his leader and dipped his head respectfully. "Hello Crimsonstar. I guess I'm not the only one out late tonight." He sat, tail hanging down from the beam he sat upon. He observed his perch, realizing that he was sitting upon a fallen tree, that rested upon the tops of others. His face registered slight surprise. Until now, he hadn't known this spot was even here! His tense muscles relaxed when he saw it was only Midnight. Look at you, you pathetic lump. Intimidated by your own Clanmate. He blinked, diminishing the voice of his father from his thoughts. 'Hello Midnight,' Crimsonstar returned the greeting. He walked back to where he formally was sitting, and looked over at Midnight, who had the smallest hint of surprise written on his expression. 'How'd you find your way here, anyway? If you don't mind me asking,' Crimsonstar inquired, just out of curiosity. He never knew this spot was here until a few moons after he was made a warrior. It seemed as though one only stumbled upon these fallen trees by complete luck, as Crimsonstar thought of it.
ooc - if you don't mind me asking, is Midnight an apprentice or warrior? [/blockquote]

ooc- he's apprentice age, but hasn't been named one yet
ic- Midnight shrugged, "Just wandering. I like night hunting, and snooping around the territory a bit. It's really spooky, and I enjoy the quiet. I didn't even know this place was here, nor that there was another cat here until you stirred!" His yellow eyes looked around him, "How long has this been here, do you think?" His hanging tail began to swish back and forth contentedly. This was the first conversation he'd had with another cat besides Deathpaw and Sinpaw, and he was glad to have someone to chat with. The thought had crossed his mind once or twice before, but now he was given the moment to dwell on it. His emerald audits moved from the view to the bark beneath his paws, and under the pad of his paw he felt that it had smoothened over the seasons. 'I honestly don't know. I would take a guess many seasons before my parents were born. By the way it's become so concealed and hard to find, that's my best guess.' This could've been here long before that, when he came to think of it. 'How long do you think it's been here?' Crimsonstar asked in response, curious to here the tom's answer. Midnight's glance traveled from the scene around him and fell upon Crimsonstar. "I'd guess the same as you. The wood is smooth, and I can feel the spirits of your ancestors stirring around me." His fur bristled, but in intrigue and wonder, not in fear. He felt safe here. Midnight realized something then: although he was no clanborn cat, he truly believed that there was a Dreamclan, and he could feel them shifting around him, as he was so close to the sky that he felt he could brush them with his tail. He looked up at the shimmering indigo pelt above him, having a feeling that there were countless eyes staring back. This was a truly new experience for him. Midnight had made his decision: he would stay in blazeclan for good, and train to become a warrior. His eyes remained on the wonders above as he whispered, "It's like I can feel their pelts touching mine...it's amazing." [/blockquote]

Crimsonstar listened, intrigued by what the younger one had to say. The sensation of feeling the age-old anscestors around them was truely something amazing, and he had met several of them during his leader ceremony. But of course, he's forbidden to speak of what happened when he recieved his lives, so he couldn't mention what he experienced to Midnight. 'It is incredible; the wonders of DreamClan. They walk with us, with every pawstep, watching over us and communicating in dreams.' Emerald audits were raised to the sky, looking over each star.
Are you out there, sister? Regret and grief flashed in his expression, as that scene replayed in his mind. You don't deserve to be leader. Not after the crimes you committed. His eyelids shut and he bowed his head, giving a silent apology to his family, all who reside in DreamClan. He's only done this so many times before, but he still couldn't ever apologize enough. Crimsonstar opened his eyes and looked over to Midnight, and the subject took a change. 'How has Clan life been treating you?' He was aware Midnight was welcomed into BlazeClan in recent times, but he was curious to know if anyone has been giving him a rough time.
ooc - has Midnight been assigned a mentor yet? [/blockquote]

ooc- nope! :]
ic- Midnight noticed that Crimsonstar squeezed his eyes shut, as if blocking off pain of some sort. He watched him, shifting uncomfortably from paw to paw because he didn't know what to say to comfort him. He had never been good at that sort of thing. As the leader pushed away his thoughts and spoke, the young tom answered immediately, with the eagerness of those his age. "Yeah, it's really great! Although I don't have many friends yet, I think I want to stay in Blazeclan and live to become a warrior. I can't stand the idea of leaving, and I don't think I'd like being a rogue anyways; that life is lonely, or so I've heard from Sinpaw and Deathpaw." His gaze studied Crimsonstar's face, wondering if perhaps he was thinking about naming him as an apprentice soon. [/blockquote]

The response he got made Crimsonstar crack a smile. He was happy Midnight decided to stay, and that no one was giving him a hard time. 'It's good to hear that you want to stay. Whether you want to leave or remain in BlazeClan, it's your choice and I wouldn't force you to into either.' Crimsonstar murrowed. 'And don't worry, I'm sure once the others get used to you then they'll be more inclined to talk to you.' Then a thought crossed his mind; Midnight hadn't been named an apprentice yet, and was yet to be given a mentor. 'How would you like to be an official apprentice soon?' Crimsonstar asked, seeing that Midnight had been here for an appropriate amount of time, and since he's deciding to stay, he has the right to start his training.
ooc - could Crimsonstar perhaps mentor him? (: [/blockquote]

ooc- sure! =]
ic- Midnight took in these words. Maybe, as Crimsonstar was suggesting, it took cats a little time to get used to non clanborn cats. Maybe once he moved into the apprentice's den, they would approach him and speak with him. Midnight's eyes sparked up with energy. "I'd love to be an apprentice! I can't wait to prove myself and talk to other cats my age and train with them!" He nearly jumped to his paws at the thought of training, already excited for it. [/blockquote]

Another soft chuckle, and his smile turned up his maw. Crimsonstar remembered being eager to be an apprentice. He wondered, based on the excitement he saw in Midnight right now, what it'd be like to see him while training. That thought provoked another; Crimsonstar hadn't had an apprentice in quite some time...perhaps it wasn't a bad idea, to train Midnight himself. 'Expect your ceremony soon, then,' he murrowed. The dark tom purred, his bright yellow eyes glittering feircely in the moonlight, the crecent on his forehead blazed as brightly as the stars above. "Thank you Crimsonstar. For accepting me. I don't really know anyone besides Sinpaw and Deathpaw and I-I hope I can get along with others." His voice steadied and his worried tone dissapeared as he added, "I'll be the best apprentice there ever was." He grinned and struggled to sit again, his paws itching to race back to camp and tell Deathpaw. His optics traveled up to the sky once more. What is it like to be a star? He thought, gazing at the tiny points of light. One gets to watch over everything, like an immortal being. How amazing must that power feel.. [/blockquote]
