A mottled gray and white tom picked his way around the tidepools, his long ringed tail hovering out behind him to help him balance. His sky blue eyes blended well, as the pools of water all around were reflecting the pale blue sky. It was bright out, and every crevace that held water reflected it right into Sootpaw's eyes. The tom squinted subconsiously. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy days like this...they just made him feel vulnerable. Having always been a shy guy, since being a kit, he didn't like that feeling very much. It made his skin prickle, like he was being watched.
And even now, he felt that peculiar feeling that two eyes were watching his every step. He glanced behind him, but nobody was there. Among all the dips of the cliffs all around though, any cat could be hidden from sight. Sootpaw gave himself a soft shake and continued forward, carefully stepping down the side of a small, steep rise. His eyes scanned the land ahead of him, seemingly searching. He was supposed to meet his mentor for training today, and he simply couldn't wait. He sniffed the ground, poking his nose in a tiny cave, finding it empty except for some hollow crab carcasses. Pulling his head back sharply, his head rose up quickly and he looked around, still with the feeling that some cat was nearby. [/blockquote]

OOC: XDD I luv the smiley you used lolz
IC:Lilystorm watched the apprentice, safely hidden behind one of the pillars that helped keep the cave from crashing down. She silently wondered if she would be able to train the apprentice. Part of her was flattered to be chosen as the medicine cat. The other half was frightened that she would not be able to fulfil her duties as a medicine cat. She turned around to leave, but omething caught her eye. She swore she could see the determination in him. She knew that she was looking at the future medicine cat of BeachClan, and as the current one, it was her duty to train him in the was of a medicine cat. She turned back, and slowly approached Sootpaw, her strides getting more confident with each step. It was time for him to learn the trade.

Sootpaw felt the urge to look back where he had just looked a moment before. His head craned around on his lithe neck to see Lilystorm headed right towards him. Her strides were long and confident, and he tried to straighten up a bit to look more ready. Turning his body to follow his head, he face his mentor and called out over the short space that separated them, "Good morning Lilystorm." He hadn't truly been surprised to see her all that much, because he'd been having the sensation of being followed ever since he'd left camp. Whether or not she'd been following all that time was a different story, because Sootpaw always was paraniod; whether for a reason, or just out of habit. [/blockquote]

Lilystorm nodded a greeting. She let out an inaudible sigh, careful not to let Sootpaw see it. She had never trained an apprentice before. She turned back to Sootpaw, the confidence returning. "Its time to begin your training." she said. "Now, do you scent any herbs in here?" she asked. She herself couldn't, because of the dampness of the air, which hid all the other scents.
OOC: hm... I don't think there are any herbs in a cave =}

Sootpaw raised his muzzle and inhaled deeply. Then he cracked open his jaws and inhaled again. Nothing. He didn't know if this was a trick question, or if he just wasn't smelling them. His fur prickled nervously, and he thought for a moment, his skin growing hot as his mentor watched him. "Ummm..." He said, looking around and thinking hard. He couldn't see any plants, only damp, hardpacked rock floor. "I don't smell any...and I didn't see any coming here. Don't herbs need light and soil to grow?" Pausing, he glanced outside the cave and added, "So...any luck we'd have would probably be in the forest, right?" [/blockquote]

"Right." Lilystorm answered. Maybe this wouldn't be as hard as she thought it would be. "So lets go try the forest." she said, flicking her tail towards the exit of the cave. She stepped out of the cold damp cave and into the warm relaxing sunlight. She took a deep breath, taking in all the scents of the forest. "Now do you smell any herbs now?" she asked. OOC: is there any forest in beachclan? if not just pretend there is XDD oh and random herbs ^^

Sootpaw sniffed. Nothing. But they were still by the tidepools, so maybe walking further inland would help. He started picking his way back across the pools and stopped when he saw a small freshwater creek that led into the cove. He saw dark green plants dotting the shore and looked up at his mentor. "I think that's watermint..." It was actually watercress, but since the plants look alike he couldn't tell. It's not like he knew very many herbs anyways. [/blockquote]

Lilystorm took another breath. To any other cat, they probably would just have scented the prey. It took a long time and a lot of practice to be able to distinguish the different scents of herbs from the mingled cents of the forest. She followed Sootpaw's gaze to the dark green plants. "Actually, thats watercress. Nice try though." she said.

"Oh. Oops." Sootpaw meowed, his voice it's normal timid whisper. Pricking his ears up, he bounced a bit and changed the subject, "Could you show me some other herbs? I really don't know all that many by sight and scent. I've only heard of how they're used and what they're used on." Really, Sootpaw was dying to see more of the territory. He'd gone exploring a bit at the abandoned ship, but not in many other places. [/blockquote]
