White fur contrasted against the green ferns, and the femme walked into the open area of grass, towards the old stone that rests. As she approached it, the many scratches of those before we bare and on display for all to see. Phantomstream got onto her hind legs, stretching her paws as high as they could go on the stone, before unsheathing her claws and dragging them down the rock. Her tail tip twitched at the sound of her claws sharpening. When she was done, she sat down on her haunches, and licked a paw, drawing it lazily over her ear. [/blockquote]

Dark brown paws carried their owner through the green ferns. At the edge of the ferns, they stopped, and the tom peered out into the small clearing. There was a femme in the middle of the grass, who had probably just finished sharpening her claws. Fernclan cats always made sure to keep their claws sharp. Shadowpaw's green eyes blinked once, then he stepped out into the clearing, and approached the she-cat. "Hello." He murmured, "What are you doing?"

Phantomstream looked up from her washing, and gave a light, small smile. "Hello Shadowpaw," She greeted. "I sharpened my claws, then decided I might give myself a wash." The femme answered his question. "You know, I could ask you the same question. What are you doing?" Phantomstream asked the apprentice. She was only doing this to make a conversation, and to prove her brother wrong; he said she couldn't socialize in a friendly way to save her life. Pfft, he'll see. [/blockquote]

The tom shrugged slightly, trying to think of an excuse to be out of camp. Not being able to think of anything exciting he meowed, "Well I was getting bored at camp... there was nothing fun to do. Oh! But I heard Fogstar saying there is going to be a warrior ceremony soon. Maybe I'll finally become a warrior." The young tom smiled at the thought, his sharp, white teeth revealed for a few seconds. He sat down, still thinking about the warrior ceremnoy. What would his name be? When was it going to happen? Only time could tell.

The corners of the femme's mouth went up a little at seeing the happiness in the tom. She remembered when she became a warrior beside her brother. "Really? Well, not that it's my business really, but I think it's due time that you recieved your warrior name." Phantomstream was honest in those words. She sat, thinking for a moment, then asked, "Would you like to come hunting with me? I think the Clan could use any fresh-kill we can get, with this horrid drought." It was true; FernClan was being affected, and she noticed a few days ago on a hunting patrol that even the prey are feeling the loss of water, being a little more smaller than normal. The tom nodded in agreement. He too had noticed the steady decrease in the quality and quantity of the prey being brought into camp. Normally, the apprentices would be sent to fetch the juiciest, largest prey for the elders. Now however, all of the prey was small. "Sure, I'll come hunting." He meowed, putting his thoughts into words. "The clan really does need some fresh-kill." Then with a mischievous smile on his face, the tom meowed, "I bet I can catch more than you." His bright green eyes shined with the prospect of a challenge.

Icy blue audits lit up, gleaming with the same mischievous light. "I'll accept that challenge." Phantomstream got to her paws, and bunched her muscles. "Race you to the trees!" She dared, feeling like an apprentice herself. She leapt, landing beside Shadowpaw, dashing off to where the ferns and trees were, but was careful not to be too noisy. [/blockquote]

Shadowpaw jumped up beside her, his green eyes gleaming as he dashed off to the trees. They weren't too far away, so all he needed was a quick burst of speed. He ran as fast as he could, all the while making sure his pawsteps weren't loud enough to scare away the prey. He stopped as he entered the trees, looking around for Phantomstream. Had she beaten him?

Phantomstream, who was unsure herself if she got there first or not, was hidden in a bush behind the apprentice. When he looked around for her, his back to her, she pounced on his, her claws sheathed. The femme pinned him down, a playful gleam in her eyes. "Pinned ya." She grinned.

Shadowpaw lay on the ground beneath the warrior, his green eyes gleaming with mischief. He let his body go limp, as if he was giving in. When the warrior let her guard down, he would be ready to surprise her. "You got me." He meowed, "But I'll get you next time."
